Application Number: | 11/785,997 |
Claims: | 1. A process for producing ST-246 ##STR00055## of the formula comprising the steps of: a) heating a mixture of anti-tricyclo[3.2.2.0]non-6-ene-endo-8, endo-9-dicarboxylic acid anhydride, 4-(trifluoromethyl)benzhydrazide, and ethanol at reflux to form a solution; b) cooling the solution; c) concentrating the solution to form a residue; and d) recrystallizing the residue from ethyl acetate and hexanes to obtain ST-246. 2. The process of claim 1, wherein the mixture of step (a) is heated for about 18 hours. 3. The process of claim 1, wherein the mixture of step (a) is heated under an inert atmosphere. 4. The process of claim 3, wherein the inert atmosphere consists essentially of nitrogen. 5. The process of claim 3, wherein the inert atmosphere consists essentially of argon. 6. The process of claim 1, wherein the cooling of step (b) is to about room temperature. 7. The process of claim 1, wherein the solution is concentrated under reduced pressure. 8. The process of claim 7, wherein the reduced pressure of step (c) is a vacuum. 9. The process of claim 1, wherein the solution is concentrated by rotary evaporation. 10. A process for producing ST-246 ##STR00056## of the formula comprising the steps of: heating a mixture of anti-tricyclo[3.2.2.0]non-6-ene-endo-8, endo-9-dicarboxylic acid anhydride, 4-(trifluoromethyl)benzhydrazide, and ethanol at reflux for 18 hours under a nitrogen atmosphere to form a solution; cooling the solution to room temperature; concentrating the solution in vacuo to form a residue; and recrystallizing the third residue from ethyl acetate and hexanes to obtain ST-246. |
