Abstract: The invention concerns 2-oxo-1-pyrrolidine derivatives and a process for preparing them and their uses. The invention also concerns a process for preparing .alpha.-ethyl-2-oxo-1-pyrrolidine acetamide derivatives from unsaturated 2-oxo-1-pyrrolidine derivatives. Particularly the invention concerns novel intermediates and their use in methods for the preparation of S-.alpha.-ethyl-2-oxo-1-pyrrolidine acetamide.

Claims:1. Laevorotatory enantiomer of compound of general formula (B) and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, ##STR00019## wherein R.sup.1 is methyl and X is --COOMe.

2. Laevorotatory enantiomer of compound of general formula (B) and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, ##STR00020## wherein R.sup.1 is methyl and X is --COOEt.

3. A process for preparing the Laevorotatory or enantiomer of compound of general formula (B) according to claim 1 and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, ##STR00021## wherein, R.sup.1 is methyl and X is --COOMe, comprising the asymmetric hydrogenation of Z isomer or E isomer of precursor A2 ##STR00022##

4. A process for preparing the Laevorotatory or enantiomer of compound of general formula (B) according to claim 2 and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, ##STR00023## wherein, R.sup.1 is methyl and X is --COOEt, comprising the asymmetric hydrogentation of precursor A2' ##STR00024##
