Inventor(s): Barzilay; Amir (Zur Hadassah, IL), Koren-Lichtig; Hagit (Moshav Misheret, IL)
Assignee: Nutrinia Ltd. (Nazereth, IL)
Application Number:15/678,735
Patent Claims:1. An encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient comprising: (i) a dry blend comprising insulin and maltodextrin and (ii) maltodextrin disposed over the dry blend, wherein the activity of the insulin is substantially maintained under dry conditions.

2. The encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 1, wherein the dry conditions are anhydrous conditions.

3. The encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 1, wherein insulin substantially maintains its activity during the process for preparing the encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient.

4. The encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 1, wherein the insulin is recombinant human insulin.

5. The encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 2, wherein the insulin is recombinant human insulin.

6. The encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 3, wherein the insulin is recombinant human insulin.

7. The encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 1, wherein the encapsulated or embedded bioactive ingredient comprises uniformly sized particles of encapsulated bioactive ingredient having an average size of between about 50 to about 1000 micrometers.

8. The encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 2, wherein the encapsulated or embedded bioactive ingredient comprises uniformly sized particles of encapsulated bioactive ingredient having an average size of between about 50 to about 1000 micrometers.

9. The encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 3, wherein the encapsulated or embedded bioactive ingredient comprises uniformly sized particles of encapsulated bioactive ingredient having an average size of between about 50 to about 1000 micrometers.

10. The encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 3, wherein 97% of the activity of the insulin is maintained after processing.

11. The encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 1, wherein the biological activity of the insulin is maintained after oral administration.

12. A mammalian newborn food or feed composition comprising the encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 1.

13. A mammalian newborn food or feed composition comprising the encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 2.

14. A mammalian newborn food or feed composition comprising the encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 3.

15. A method of improving the health, growth, and development of a newborn mammal comprising orally administering the encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 1 to the mammal.

16. A method of improving the health, growth, and development of a newborn mammal comprising orally administering the encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 2 to the mammal.

17. A method of improving the health, growth, and development of a newborn mammal comprising orally administering the encapsulated or embedded heat sensitive bioactive ingredient of claim 3 to the mammal.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein the mammal is a preterm or post-discharge preterm human infant.

19. The method of claim 16, wherein the mammal is a preterm or post-discharge preterm human infant.

20. The method of claim 17, wherein the mammal is a preterm or post-discharge preterm human infant.

21. A method of improving the health, growth, and development of a newborn mammal comprising orally administering the mammalian newborn food or feed composition of claim 12 to the mammal.

22. A method of improving the health, growth, and development of a newborn mammal comprising orally administering the mammalian newborn food or feed composition of claim 13 to the mammal.

23. A method of improving the health, growth, and development of a newborn mammal comprising orally administering the mammalian newborn food or feed composition of claim 14 to the mammal.
