Summary for Patent: 5,985,647
Title: Stilbene synthase gene
Abstract:A stilbene synthase gene. More particularly, a stilbene synthase gene in which the stilbene synthase is resveratrol synthase. Also more particularly a stilbene synthase gene which is obtained from groundnut (Arachis hypogaea). Furthermore a stilbene synthase gene, corresponding to the stilbene synthase gene which is contained in the plasmid pGS 828.1, and DNA sequences acting in essentially the same say. Still further, a stilbene synthase gene unit which comprises approximately 6,700 base pairs and exhibits 3 EcoRI, 3 HindIII and 1 PstI cleavage sites, and which can be obtained by partial cleavage of the plasmid PGS 828.1 using EcoRI and HindIII, or from plasmid pGS 828.1 using SstI and PvuII.
Inventor(s): Schroder; Gudrun (Gundelfingen, DE), Schroder; Joachim (Gundelfingen, DE), Hain; Rudiger (Langenfeld, DE), Schreier; Peter Helmut (Cologne, DE)
Assignee: Bayer Aktiengesellschaft (Leverkusen, DE)
Application Number:07/962,993
Patent Claims:1. A DNA molecule selected from the group consisting of (A) an isolated resveratrol synthase gene obtained from ground nut (Arachis hypogaea) and (B) a synthetic DNA sequence encoding the amino acid sequence of resveratrol synthase encoded by said isolated resveratrol synthase gene.

2. A resveratrol synthase gene according to claim 1 consisting of the DNA sequence contained in plasmid pGS 828.1.

3. A resveratrol synthase gene according to claim 1 which is contained in a DNA sequence which comprises approximately 6,700 base pairs and exhibits 3 EcoRI, 3 HindIII and 1 PstI cleavage sites and which DNA sequence can be obtained by partial cleavage of the plasmid PGS 828.1 using EcoRI and HindIII.

4. A resveratrol synthase gene according to claim 1, which is contained in a DNA sequence which comprises approximately 6,700 base pairs and exhibits 3 EcoRI, 3 HindIII and 1 PstI cleavage sites and which DNA sequence can be obtained by partial cleavage of the plasmid PGS 828.1 using SstI and PvuII.

5. A DNA molecule comprising the promoter of the resveratrol synthase gene according to claim 1.

6. A DNA molecule comprising the coding region of the resveratrol synthase gene according to claim 1.

7. A resveratrol synthase gene according to claim 1, containing the following DNA sequence and including or not including the intron (DNA with small letters between the coding DNA sequences in capital letters):

8. A recombinant vector DNA or recombinant genomic prokaryotic or eukaryotic DNA, which contains a resveratrol synthase gene according to claim 1 or its promoter or its coding region.

9. A transformed microorganism containing a plasmid which bears a resveratrol synthase gene according to claim 1 or the promoter or the coding region of this resveratrol synthase gene.

10. A recombinant vector containing the resveratrol synthase gene according to claim 7.

11. The plasmid pGS 828.1.

12. A transformed microorganism containing the plasmid pGS 828.1.

13. Escherichia coli strain Nurdug 2010.
