Assignee:
Application Number:11/792,703
Patent Claims:1. A method for treating a disease punitively affected by calorie restriction comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a pharmaceutically effective amount of a composition comprising a compound selected from the group consisting of oxaloacetate, oxaloacetic acid, and oxaloacetate salt for treating a disease punitively affected by calorie restriction, wherein the disease is cancer.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising administering a chemotherapeutic agent to the subject.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein said chemotherapeutic agent is administered prior to administering said compound.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein said chemotherapeutic agent is administered after administering said compound.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein said chemotherapeutic agent is administered substantially contemporaneously with said compound.

6. The method of claim 2, wherein the chemotherapeutic agent is cyclophosphamide, chlorambucil, melphalan, estramustine, iphosphamide, prednimustin, busulphan, thiotepa, carmustine, lomustine, methotrexate, azathioprine, mercaptopurine, thioguanine, cytarabine, fluorouracil, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine, etoposide, teniposide, dactinomycin, doxorubicin, daunorubicin, epirubicin, bleomycin, mitomycin, cisplatin, carboplatin, procarbazine, amacrine, mitoxantrone, tamoxifen, nilutamide, or aminoglutethimide.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein said composition is administered orally.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein said composition is administered parenterally.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein said cancer is selected from the group consisting of primary and metastatic malignant solid tumor disease and hematological malignancy.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein said hematological malignancy is selected from the group consisting of acute and chronic myelogenous leukemia, acute and chronic lymphatic leukemia, multiple myeloma, Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia, hairy cell leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, polycythaemia vera, and essential thrombocytosis.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein said composition is formulated for oral administration.

12. The method of claim 1, further comprising administering a therapeutic agent to the subject.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein said subject is a mammal.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein said mammal is a human.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the therapeutic agent is an antibacterial, an antifungal, an anti-histamine, protein, enzyme, vitamin, hormone, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, an immune-stimulatory compound, or a steroid.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein the compound is administered at a dose of about 0.5 mg/kg to about 1 g/kg.

17. The method of claim 1, wherein the compound is administered at a dose of about 2 mg/kg to about 4 g/kg.
