Summary for Patent: 9,701,538
Title:Conversion of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) to nitric oxide (NO)
Abstract: Various systems, devices, NO.sub.2 absorbents, NO.sub.2 scavengers and NO.sub.2 recuperator for generating nitric oxide are disclosed herein. According to one embodiment, an apparatus for converting nitrogen dioxide to nitric oxide can include a receptacle including an inlet, an outlet, a surface-active material coated with an aqueous solution of ascorbic acid and an absorbent wherein the inlet is configured to receive a gas flow and fluidly communicate the gas flow to the outlet through the surface-active material and the absorbent such that nitrogen dioxide in the gas flow is converted to nitric oxide.

Assignee: GENO LLC (Cocoa, FL)
Application Number:14/294,070
Patent Claims: 1. A cartridge for the delivery of a therapeutic amount of nitric oxide to a mammal, comprising: a housing including an inner passage and an outer passage forming an annulus with a diameter, wherein the diameter is fixed during the delivery, and a surface active material having a reducing agent located between the inner passage and the outer passage, wherein the housing further includes an inlet and an outlet, wherein the inlet is configured to receive a gas flow including nitrogen dioxide to the inner passage and fluidly communicate the gas flow through the surface active material to the outer passage and finally to the outlet such that the gas flow contacts the reducing agent and the reducing agent converts substantially all of the nitrogen dioxide in the gas flow to nitric oxide, wherein the cartridge comprises three concentric tubes, wherein a space between a first tube and a second tube form the outer passage, a space between the second tube and a third tube form the annulus, and the third tube forms the inner passage, wherein the surface active material is contained within the annulus.

2. The cartridge of claim 1, further comprising a top cap, which includes the inlet.

3. The cartridge of claim 2, wherein the top cap is coupled to the first tube.

4. The cartridge of claim 1, wherein the diameter of the second tube is fixed along its length.

5. The cartridge of claim 1, wherein the diameter of the third tube is fixed along its length.
