Summary for Patent: 9,320,862
Title:Fluid dispensing device
Abstract: A fluid dispensing device for dispensing a fluid form medicament formulation having a viscosity of from 10 to 2000 mPas, is disclosed having a housing and a fluid discharge device. The fluid discharge device is arranged to be actuated by one or more levers, so as to apply a force to the fluid discharge device which is used to move a container forming part of the fluid discharge device, along a longitudinal axis of the fluid discharge device to cause actuation of a pump forming. A pre-load mechanism prevents actuation of the pump until a pre-determined force is applied to each lever of sufficient magnitude to guarantee the production of a well-developed, efficient spray from the fluid dispensing device.

Patent Claims: 1. A finger-operable actuating member for a fluid dispensing device for movement transversely with respect to a longitudinal axis of a fluid discharge device of the fluid dispensing device to apply a force to the fluid discharge device to move the fluid discharge device along its longitudinal axis so as to discharge a fluid medicament formulation therefrom, wherein the actuating member comprises: a surface for applying the force to a follower of the fluid discharge device, wherein the surface has a two-stage profile to provide a pre-load means to prevent discharge from the fluid discharge device until a pre-determined force is applied to the actuating member, and wherein the two-stage profile comprises an initial concave high gradient profile and a subsequent convex lower gradient profile such that, in use, no significant force is transferable from the actuating member to the fluid discharge device along the longitudinal axis until the pre-determined force is applied to the actuating member.

2. The actuating member of claim 1, wherein there is a relatively smooth break point between the high and lower gradient profiles.

3. The actuating member of claim 2, wherein the high and lower gradient profiles both have a part-circle form.

4. The actuating member of claim 2, wherein the two-stage profile is disposed at one end of the actuating member.

5. The actuating member of claim 2, wherein the actuating member is a lever.

6. The actuating member of claim 5, wherein the lever is adapted for pivotal movement about a lower end thereof for movement transverse with respect to the longitudinal axis.

7. The actuating member of claim 6, wherein the two-stage profile is disposed at an upper end of the lever.

8. The actuating member of claim 2, in combination with a housing for movably housing the fluid discharge device, wherein the actuating member is comprised in the housing such that the actuating member is movable transversely with respect to the longitudinal axis of the fluid discharge device to apply the force thereto.

9. The actuating member of claim 2, wherein said follower is provided to a container of the fluid discharge device or a fitting on the container.

10. The actuating member of claim 9, wherein the follower is provided to the fitting and wherein the fitting comprises a collar connected to a neck of the container.

11. The actuating member of claim 1, wherein the high and lower gradient profiles both have a part-circle form.

12. The actuating member of claim 1, wherein the two-stage profile is disposed at one end of the actuating member.

13. The actuating member of 1, wherein the actuating member comprises a lever.

14. The actuating member of claim 13, wherein the lever is adapted for pivotal movement about a lower end thereof for movement transverse with respect to the longitudinal axis.

15. The actuating member of claim 14, wherein the two-stage profile is disposed at an upper end of the lever.

16. The actuating member of claim 1, in combination with a housing for movably housing the fluid discharge device, wherein the actuating member is comprised in the housing such that the actuating member is movable transversely with respect to the longitudinal axis of the fluid discharge device to apply the force thereto.

17. The actuating member of claim 1, wherein said follower is provided to a container of the fluid discharge device or a fitting on the container.

18. The actuating member of claim 17, wherein the follower is provided to the fitting and wherein the fitting comprises a collar connected to a neck of the container.
