Patent Claims: 1. A method for treating a human subject suffering from photodermatoses that are caused or exacerbated by or associated with ultraviolet radiation (UVR) exposure which comprises the step of administering to said subject an amount of [Nle.sup.4, D-Phe.sup.7]-alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) effective to reduce the photosensitivity of the skin of the subject.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the photodermatosis is erythropoietic photoporphyria (EPP).

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the photodermatosis is solar urticaria (SU).

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the photodermatosis is polymorphous light eruption (PLE).
