Patent Claims:	1. A compound of formula I: wherein, A is Y is chosen from O, S, NR17 and NOH; R1 is —NHR8; R2 and R2a are both hydrogen or taken together R2 and R2a are ═O; R3 is chosen from hydrogen, lower alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, benzyl and hydroxyalkyl; R4 is chosen from hydrogen, hydroxyl, amino, lower alkoxy, C1-C20 alkyl and C1-C20 alkyl substituted with hydroxyl or carbonyl; R7 is chosen from hydrogen and hydroxyl; R5 is a lower alkyl ; R6 is a lower alkyl; wherein together R5 and R6 form one ring, said ring having optional additional substitution; R8 is chosen from hydrogen, —OH, —NH2 and —CH2R15; R15 is chosen from hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl and alkyl substituted with alkoxy, amino, alkylamino and dialkylamino; and R17 is chosen from hydrogen, alkyl, aryl and benzyl. 2. A compound of claim 1 wherein A is chosen from: —CONH2, —C(═S)NH2, —C(O)NHOH, —C(O)NHNH2, —CONHCH3, —CONHBn, —CONHCH2(4-MeOC6H4), and —C(═NOH)NH2. 3. A compound of claim 2 wherein A is CONH2. 4. A compound of claim 3 wherein R7 is hydroxyl. 5. A compound of claim 3 wherein R3 is lower alkyl. 6. A compound of claim 5 wherein R3 is selected from methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, cyclopropyl, butyl, s-butyl, t-butyl and cyclobutyl. 7. A compound of claim 3 wherein R3 is alkenyl. 8. A compound of claim 3 wherein A is CONH2, R7 is hydroxyl and R3 is cyclopropyl. 9. A compound according to claim 1 of formula: wherein, A is Y is chosen from O, S, NR17 and NOH; R1 is —NHR8; R2 and R2a are both hydrogen or taken together R2 and R2a are ═O; R3 is chosen from hydrogen, lower alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, benzyl and hydroxyalkyl; R4 is chosen from hydrogen, hydroxyl, amino, lower alkoxy, C1-C20 alkyl and C1-C20 alkyl substituted with hydroxyl or carbonyl; and R17 is chosen from hydrogen, alkyl, aryl and benzyl. 10. A compound of according to claim 9 of formula: wherein, A is selected from —CONH2, —C(═S)NH2, —C(O)NHOH, —C(O)NHNH2, —CONHCH3, —CONHBn, —CONHCH2 (4-MeOC6 H4), and —C(═NOH)NH2; R19 is selected from —CH3, —CH2-c-C3H5 and —CH2-c-C4H7. 11. A compound of claim 10 wherein A is —CONH2. 12. A compound of claim 1 of formula: wherein, A is selected from —CONH2, —C(═S)NH2, —C(O)NHOH, —C(O)NHNH2, —CONHCH3, —CONHBn, —CONHCH2 (4-MeOC6 H4), and —C(═NOH)NH2. 13. A compound of claim 12 wherein A is —CONH2. 14. A compound according to claim 1 having formula:
