1. A compound of the general formula (I): ##STR9## wherein: R1 is a group --(CH2)n CONR5 R6 ;n is zero; R5 and R6 each independently represent hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or propyl; and R2 and R3 each independently represent hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl provided both are not hydrogen;or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 2. A compound of claim 1 wherein R2 and R3 each independently represent hydrogen, methyl or ethyl. 3. A compound of claim 2 wherein R5 and R6 each independently represent hydrogen or methyl. 4. A compound of claim 1, which is selected from3-n-propylamino-6-carboxamido- 1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocarbazole; 3-i-propylamino-6-carboxamido-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocarbazole, or a salt thereof. 5. A compound of claim 1, which is selected from3-(N-(methyl)ethylamino)-6-carboxamido-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocarbazole; 3-dimethylamino-6-carboxamido-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocarbazole; 3-ethylamino-6-carboxamido- 1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocarbazole;or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 6. 3-Benzylamino-6-carboxamido-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocarbazole; or salt thereof. 7. 3-Pyrrolidinyl-6-carboxamido-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocarbazole, or salt thereof. 8. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound of claim 1 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a physiologically acceptable carrier. 9. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound of claim 3 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a physiologically acceptable carrier. 10. A method of treatment of a condition wherein a 5-HT1 -like agonist is indicated, which comprises administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of a compound of claim 1. 11. A method of claim 10 wherein in a compound of formula (I) R5 and R6 each independently represent hydrogen and methyl and R1 and R2 each represent hydrogen, methyl or ethyl provided R1 and R2 are not both hydrogen. |
