1. A method for inhibiting HIV replication within an HIV-infected cell comprising contacting the HIV reverse transcriptase within that cell with
2. A method for the intracellular inhibition of HIV replication in an HIV-infected individual comprising contacting the HIV reverse transcriptase in the HIV-infected cells of that individual with 2',3'-dideoxyadenosine-5'-triphosphate.
3. The method of claim 2, wherein the source of the 2',3'-dideoxyadenosine-5'-triphosphate is 2',3'-dideoxyadenosine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or prodrug ester thereof which is administered in a therapeutically effective amount to the individual.
4. A method for inhibiting HIV replication within an HIV-infected cell comprising treating said cells with 2',3'-dideoxyadenosine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein the resulting 2',3'-dideoxyadenosine-5'-triphosphate contacts the intracellular HIV reverse transcriptase.
