Abstract:	The present invention provides a new medical use for the phenethanolamine compound 4-hydroxy-(alpha)1-(((6-(4-phenylbutoxy)hexyl)amino)methyl)-1,3-benzenedimethanol and physiologically acceptable salts and solvates thereof in the treatment of inflammation, allergy and allergic reaction.

Patent Claims:	1. A method of treatment of a mammal, including man, suffering from the late asthmatic reaction which comprises administering an effective amount of 4-hydroxy-.alpha..sup.1 -[[[6-(4-phenylbutoxy)hexyl]amino]methyl]-1,3-benzenedimethanol or a physiologically acceptable salt or solvate thereof. 2. A method of treatment of a mammal, including man, suffering from late-phase asthma which comprises administering an effective amount of 4-hydroxy-.alpha..sup.1 -[[[6-(4-phenylbutoxy)hexyl]amino]-methyl]-1,3-benzenedimethanol or a physiologically acceptable salt or solvate thereof. 3. A method of treatment according to any one of claims 1 or 2 which comprises administering an effective amount of 4-hydroxy-.alpha..sup.1 -[[[6-(4-phenylbutoxy)hexyl]amino]methyl]-1,3-benzenedimethanol, 1-hydroxy-2-naphthalene-carboxylate salt.
