Patent Claims: 1. A thiazolidine derivative of the formula: ##STR79## wherein R.sup.1 is a pyridyl group having 1 to 3 substituents selected from the group consisting of lower alkyls, halogens and hydroxyl on the ring, or a thiazolyl group having 1 to 3 substituents selected from the group consisting of lower alkyls, halogens and hydroxyl on the ring; R.sup.2 means a bond or a lower alkylene group; L.sup.1 and L.sup.2 are the same or different and each is hydrogen, lower alkyl or L.sup.1 and L.sup.2 are combined to form an alkylene group.

2. A thiazolidine derivative as claimed in claim 1, each of L.sup.1 and L.sup.2 is hydrogen.

3. A thiazolidine derivative as claimed in claim 1, wherein R.sup.2 is a lower alkylene group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms.

4. A compound as claimed in claim 1, wherein the compound is 5-{4-[2-(6-methyl-2-pyridyl)ethoxy]benzyl}thiazolidine-2,4-dione.

5. A compound as claimed in claim 1, wherein the compound is 5-{4-[2-(4-methyl-5-thiazolyl)ethoxy]benzyl}thiazolidine-2,4-dione.

6. A hypolipidemic and hypoglycemic pharmaceutical composition, which comprises, as an active ingredient, an effective amount of a thiazolidine derivative defined in claim 1 and a pharamaceutically acceptable carrier therefor.
