Patent Claims: 1. A stable pharmaceutical batch of a salt of treprostinil that can be stored at ambient temperature and that is prepared by a method comprising providing a starting batch of treprostinil having one or more impurities resulting from prior alkylation and hydrolysis steps; forming a solution comprising treprostinil from said starting batch of treprostinil, and contacting the solution comprising treprostinil with a base to form a salt of treprostinil, wherein a level of one or more impurities found in the starting batch of treprostinil is lower in the pharmaceutical batch, said pharmaceutical batch being at least 2.9 grams.

2. The pharmaceutical batch of claim 1, wherein the pharmaceutical batch has been dried under vacuum.

3. The pharmaceutical batch of claim 1, wherein the base is diethanolamine.

4. A pharmaceutical product comprising a carrier and a therapeutically effective amount of a salt of treprostinil, wherein the salt of treprostinil is from a pharmaceutical batch as claimed in claim 1.

5. The pharmaceutical product of claim 4, wherein the salt is the diethanolamine salt of treprostinil.

6. A method of preparing a pharmaceutical product from a pharmaceutical batch as claimed in claim 1, comprising storing a pharmaceutical batch of a salt of treprostinil as claimed in claim 1 at ambient temperature and preparing a pharmaceutical product from the pharmaceutical batch after said storing.

7. A method as claimed in claim 6, wherein the salt of treprostinil is a diethanolamine salt.

8. A method of preparing a pharmaceutical batch of treprostinil or a salt thereof, comprising (a) alkylating a benzindene triol, (b) hydrolyzing the product of step (a) to form a solution comprising treprostinil, (c) contacting the solution comprising treprostinil from step (b) with a base to form a salt of treprostinil and (d) storing the salt of treprostinil at ambient temperature and thereafter acidifying the salt of treprostinil to form treprostinil, wherein forming the salt of step (c) reduces the amount of one or more impurities resulting from steps (a) and/or (b) in the pharmaceutical batch.

9. A pharmaceutical batch as claimed in claim 1, wherein no purification by column chromatography is performed between steps (a) and (b).

10. A method of claim 8, wherein treprostinil in (b) is not isolated prior to (c).

11. A pharmaceutical batch of treprostinil prepared by the method of claim 8.
