Title: | Compositions and methods for reducing capillary permeability |
Abstract: | The invention generally relates to compositions and methods for reducing capillary permeability. The compositions comprise highly selective alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonists, at low concentrations, such as below 0.05% weight by volume. The compositions preferably comprise brimonidine. The compositions preferably have pH between about 5.5 and about 6.5. |

Claims: | 1. A method of reducing capillary permeability in a pulmonary condition associated with swollen nasal turbinates comprising administering to a patient in need thereof a composition consisting essentially of brimonidine, wherein pH of said composition is between about 3.5 and about 6.5, wherein said brimonidine concentration is from between about 0.001% to about 0.025% weight by volume, and wherein said composition is formulated as an aerosolized composition, and wherein the composition is administered into a nasal airway of the patient. 2. The method of claim 1 wherein spread of pathogens associated with said pulmonary condition is reduced. 3. The method of claim 1, further comprising reducing or alleviating an allergic or an inflammatory condition of the respiratory tract of said patient. 4. A method of reducing capillary permeability in a pulmonary condition associated with swollen nasal turbinates comprising administering to a patient in need thereof a composition consisting essentially of brimonidine, wherein pH of said composition is between about 5.0 and about 6.5, wherein said brimonidine concentration is from between about 0.001% to about 0.025% weight by volume, and wherein said composition is formulated as an aerosolized composition, and wherein the composition is administered into a nasal airway of the patient. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein said patient has a nasal congestion. |
