Claims: | 1. A method for promoting wound healing comprising administering to an animal possessing a wound, a wound healing effective amount of a composition comprising at least two compounds, or the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, selected from the groups of compounds having the formulae I-IV: ##STR19## wherein R.sub.1, and R.sub.2 are the same or different and each is H or an acyl group derived from a carboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of an amino acid, an unbranched fatty acid containing 2 to 22 carbon atoms, and a dicarboxylic acid containing 3 to 22 carbon atoms, and R.sub.3 is H or an acyl group derived from a carboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of an amino acid, and a dicarboxylic acid containing 3 to 22 carbon atoms, provided that at least one of said substituents R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 on each of said groups of compounds is not hydrogen and provided that at least one compound is selected from the group of compounds having the formula II, and at least one compound is selected from the group of compounds having the formula III. 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said composition further comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said composition further comprises an antibiotic. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein said wound is a skin wound. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein said wound is a burn. 6. The method of claim 1, wherein said wound is a surgical incision. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein said wound is a liver wound. 8. The method as in claim 1 wherein said composition comprises at least three compounds from at least three of the groups of the compounds having the formulae I-IV. 9. The method as in claim 1 wherein said composition comprises at least four compounds from at least four of the groups of the compounds having the formulae I-IV. 10. The method as in claim 1 wherein said composition is in dosage unit form. 11. The method as in claim 1 wherein said composition is in the form of a lotion, ointment, or cream or bioerodible polymer. |
