Assignee: ICON BIOSCIENCE, INC. (Watertown, MA)
Application Number:16/012,497
Patent Claims: 1. A kit comprising: an injection syringe comprising a syringe barrel and a plunger rod, wherein the syringe barrel defines a proximal end and a distal end, the plunger rod defines a proximal end and a distal end, and the plunger rod is slidably disposed within the syringe barrel; a syringe needle; a dose-delivery guide, wherein the dose-delivery guide is configured to be disposed at least partially around the plunger rod adjacent to the proximal end of the syringe barrel, the dose-delivery guide is rigid along its height, the dose-delivery guide is configured to stop movement of the plunger rod into the syringe barrel at a first predetermined distance defined between the proximal end of the syringe barrel and the distal end of the plunger rod; and a dose-loading guide comprising a grip portion and a collar portion connected to the grip portion, wherein the collar portion is rigid along its height, the collar portion defines an opening that removably receives the dose-delivery guide during dose-loading, the collar portion is configured to stop movement of the plunger rod into the syringe barrel at a second predetermined distance defined between the proximal end of the syringe barrel and the distal end of the plunger rod, the grip portion is configured to facilitate positioning of the collar portion around the dose-delivery guide during dose loading, the grip portion facilitates removal of the collar portion after dose loading, wherein a difference between the first predetermined distance and the second predetermined distance defines a dose volume.

2. The kit of claim 1, wherein the second predetermined distance is greater than the first predetermined distance.

3. The kit of claim 1, wherein the difference is h, calculated by the formula: h=v/.pi.r.sup.2 wherein v is the dose volume and r is a radius of the syringe barrel.

4. The kit of claim 3, wherein: v is measured in microliters, r is measured in mm, and h is measured in mm.

5. The kit of claim 1, wherein the first predetermined distance is configured to correct for a depression at the proximal end of the syringe barrel.

6. The kit of claim 1, further comprising a vial comprising a pharmaceutical composition.

7. The kit of claim 6, wherein the pharmaceutical composition is selected from a group consisting of IBI-20089, IBI-10090, ranizumab, bevacizumab, and VEGF Trap-Eye.

8. The kit of claim 1, further comprising instructions for using the dose-loading guide and the dose-delivery guide.

9. A method of using the kit of claim 1 comprising: withdrawing the plunger rod of the injection syringe such that a distal end of the plunger rod remains within the syringe barrel, placing the dose-delivery guide around the plunger rod such that the dose-delivery guide is disposed between the proximal end of the syringe barrel and proximal end of the plunger rod; placing a syringe needle onto the injection syringe; drawing a pharmaceutical composition into the injection syringe; expelling air bubbles from the injection syringe; placing the dose-loading guide around the dose-delivery guide such that the opening of the collar portion of the dose-loading guide receives the dose-delivery guide; depressing the plunger rod until the dose-loading guide stops movement of the plunger rod into the syringe barrel at the second predetermined distance; removing the dose-loading guide.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising the step of depressing the plunger rod until the dose-delivery guide stops movement of the plunger rod at the first predetermined distance, wherein a difference between the first predetermined distance and the second predetermined distance defines a dose volume.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the second predetermined distance is greater than the first predetermined distance.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the difference is h, calculated by the formula: h=v/.pi.r.sup.2 wherein v is the dose volume and r is a radius of the syringe barrel.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein: v is measured in microliters, r is measured in mm, and h is measured in mm.

14. The method of claim 10, wherein the first predetermined distance is configured to correct for a depression at the proximal end of the syringe barrel.

15. The method of claim 9, wherein the pharmaceutical composition is selected from a group consisting of IBI-20089, IBI-10090, ranizumab, bevacizumab, and VEGF Trap-Eye.
