Claims: | 1. A method of treating a disorder of the central nervous system associated with the 5-HT.sub.1A receptor in a patient suffering from Down's syndrome, which comprises administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of a carbostyril compound of formula (1), or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof selected from hemihydrates, hydrates, and alcoholates, wherein said patient is a mammal: ##STR00003## wherein the carbon-carbon bond between 3- and 4- positions in the carbostyril skeleton is a single or a double bond. 2. A method of treating a disorder of he central nervous system associated with the 5-HT.sub.1A receptor in a patient suffering from Down's syndrome, which comprises administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of a carbostyril compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof selected from hemihydrates, hydrates, and alcoholates, wherein said patient is a mammal and wherein the carbostyril compound is 7{4 [4(2,3 dichlorophenyl) 1-piperazinyl]butoxy}-3,4 dihydrocarbostyril. |
