Claims: | 1. A method for promoting the penetration of a .beta.-blocker into an eye and for improving the retention of the .beta.-blocker in the ocular tissues which comprises incorporating a C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 fatty acid or the salt thereof into an eye drop containing the .beta.-blocker. 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the .beta.-blocker is carteolol or the salt thereof. 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the .beta.-blocker is timolol or the salt thereof. 4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the .beta.-blocker is betaxolol or the salt thereof. 5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 fatty acid is an unsaturated fatty acid. 6. The method according to claim 1, wherein the C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 fatty acid is a C.sub.6 unsaturated fatty acid. 7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 fatty acid is sorbic acid. 8. A method for promoting the penetration of cateolol or the salt thereof into an eye and for improving the retention of carteolol or the salt thereof in the ocular tissues which comprises incorporating sorbic acid or the salt thereof in an eye drop containing carteolol. 9. A method for promoting the penetration of timolol or the salt thereof into an eye and for improving the retention of timolol or the salt thereof in the ocular tissues which comprises incorporating sorbic acid or the salt thereof in an eye drop containing timolol. 10. A method for promoting the penetration of betaxolol or the salt thereof into an eye and for improving the retention of betaxolol or the salt thereof in the ocular tissues which comprises incorporating sorbic acid or the salt thereof in an eye drop containing betaxolol. |
