|Abstract:||A method for treating or preventing a Pneumocystis carinii infection in a mammal by administering a certain naphthoquinone compound or physiologically acceptable salts thereof.|

|Claims:||1. A method of treating in a mammal Pneumocystis carinii infections which comprises administering to said mammal suffering with P. carinii an effective treatment amount of a naphthoquinone of the general formula: ##STR8## wherein R.sup.10 is an alkyl group of from 1 to 10 carbon atoms and m is 0 to 1; and physiologically acceptable salts thereof. |
2. A method according to claim 1 wherein the naphthoquinone is 2-(4-t-butylcyclohexyl)-3-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone.
3. A method according to any one of claims 1 or 2 wherein the compound of formula is administered in an amount of from 10 to 50 mg per kilogram of mammal body weight per day.
4. A method according to claim 2 or 3 wherein the mammal is a human.
