|Abstract:||Novel 3-thioketals of 13-polycarbonalkyl-17-ethynyl-17-hydroxygon-4-ene and 13-polycarbonalkyl-17-chlorethynyl-17-hydroxygon-4-ene, with improved separation of activities, i.e. maximizing progestational and minimizing androgenic action, are prepared from the corresponding 3-carbonyl compounds by treatment with dithioethylene ketal in the presence of an acid catalyst.|

|Claims:||1. The composition of matter selected from the group consisting of 17-ethynyl-17.beta.-hydroxy-gon-4-en-3-thioketal having an alkyl group containing 2 to 4 carbons at the 13-position, 17-chloroethynyl-17.beta.-hydroxy-gon-4-en-3-thioketal having an alkyl group containing 2 to 4 carbons at the 13-position, and the acetate esters thereof. |
2. A compound of claim 1 which is 13.beta.-ethyl-17.alpha.-ethynyl-3,3-ethylenedithiogon-4-en-17.beta.-ol.
3. A compound of claim 1 which is 13.beta.-ethyl-17.alpha.-ethynyl-17.beta.-acetoxy-3,3-ethylenedithiogon-4- ene.
4. A compound of claim 1 which is 13.beta.-ethyl-17.alpha.-chloro-ethyl-17.beta.-hydroxy-3,3-ethylenedithiog on-4-ene.
5. A compound of claim 1 which is 13.beta.-ethyl-17.alpha.-chloro-ethynyl-17.beta.-acetoxy-3,3-ethylenedithi ogon-4-ene.
