Participants in this study will be patients diagnosed with or suspected to have a thyroid
nodule or thyroid cancer.
The main purpose of this study is to further understand the methods for the diagnosis and
treatment of thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer. Many of the test performed are in the
context of standard medical care that is offered to all patients with thyroid nodules or
thyroid cancer. Other tests are performed for research purposes. In addition, blood and
tissue samples will be taken for research and genetic studies.
Sorafenib Tosylate in Treating Patients With Locally Advanced, Metastatic, or Locally Recurrent Thyroid Cancer

Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of sorafenib tosylate in treating patients who have
locally advanced, metastatic, or locally recurrent thyroid cancer. Sorafenib tosylate may
stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking the enzymes necessary for their growth and by
stopping blood flow to the tumor.
Romidepsin in Treating Patients With Recurrent and/or Metastatic Thyroid Cancer That Has Not Responded to Radioactive Iodine

This phase II trial is studying how well romidepsin works in treating patients with recurrent
and/or metastatic thyroid cancer that has not responded to radioactive iodine. Romidepsin may
stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking the some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. It
may also help radioactive iodine and chemotherapy work better by making tumor cells more
sensitive to the drug
