Patent Claims:1. A composition comprising: an oxidized and maleated fatty acid or rosin acid compound, wherein the composition comprises fatty acid compounds, rosin acid compounds or a mixture of such compounds having crosslinks between hydrocarbon chains through an ether linkage and having one or more derivatized carboxylic acid moieties.

A composition according to claim 1, wherein the one or more derivatized carboxylic acid moieties is a carboxylic acid reacted with one or more of ricinoleic acid, a polyamine, an amino alcohol, an imidazoline, a metal chelator, an acetylenic alcohol, morpholino, a phosphate ester, an amino acid, a xanthate, a thiphosphate ester, a hydroxamic acid, a sulfonate, and a sulfate.

A composition according to claim 2, wherein polyamines are chosen from: ethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine, triethylenetetramine, tetraethylenepentamine, isophorone diamine, aminoethyl piperazine, piperazine, hydroxyethylethyene diamine, diaminobenzene, lysine, ornithine, xylylenediamine, hexamethylene diamine, bis(hexamethylene)triamine, diaminobenzene sulfonic acid, diaminopropane, diaminocyclohexane, polylysine, polyornithine, polyallylamine, Amine HH, Jeffamines, dipropylenetriamine, triproplyenetetraamine, 1,2-bis(3-aminopropylamino)ethane, bis(hexamethylene)triamine, 1,3-propanecliamine, cadaverine, putrascine, spermine, spermidine, histamine, tryptamine, agmatine, cytosine, and serotonin.

4. A composition according to claim 2, wherein amino alcohols are chosen from: monoethanolamine, am inoethylethanolamine, diethanolamine, monoisopropanolamine, and diisopropanolamine.

5. A composition according to claim 2, wherein amino acids are chosen from natural and unnatural amino acids.

6. A method of emulsifying a solution comprising combining the solution with an effective amount of a composition according to claim 1.

7. A method of inhibiting corrosion on a metal surface comprising contacting the metal surface with an effective amount of a composition according to claim 1.

8. A method of reducing corrosion on a metal surface comprising contacting the metal surface with an effective amount of a composition according to claim 1.

9. A method of floating an ore, the method comprising introduction of a composition comprising an ore collector to a reverse flotation cell, wherein the composition comprises an effective amount of a composition according to claim 1,

10. A method of modifying concrete, the method comprising adding a concrete admixture to the concrete, wherein the concrete admixture comprises a composition according to claim 1.
