Summary for Patent: 5,872,221
Title: Antibody having binding specificity to parathyroid hormone related protein (PTHrP) and kit comprising the same
Abstract:Antibody reagents capable of binding epitopes of PTHrP and a kit for the detection of PTHrP or fragments thereof comprising one or more antibody reagents capable of binding to epitopes of PTHrP.
Inventor(s): Martin; Thomas J. (Kew, AU), Moseley; Jane M. (North Balwyn, AU), Kemp; Bruce E. (Kew, AU), Wettenhall; Richard E. H. (Camberwell, AU)
Assignee: The University of Melbourne (Victoria, AU)
Application Number:08/008,696
Patent Claims:1. An antibody having binding specificity to a N-terminal fragment of parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP), wherein said PTHrP has a molecular weight of between 15 to 25 kilodaltons, as determined by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and wherein said N-terminal fragment is PTHrP(1-34) peptide having the following amino acid sequence: ##STR2##

2. An antibody having binding specificity to a substituted fragment of PTHrP(1-34) peptide selected from the group consisting of: ##STR3##

3. The antibody of claim 1 or 2, wherein said antibody is labelled with a detectable marker.

4. A kit comprising an antibody having binding specificity to an N-terminal fragment of parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP), wherein said PTHrP has a molecular weight of between 15 to 25 kilodaltons, as determined by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and wherein said N-terminal fragment is PTHrP(1-34) having the following amino acid sequence: ##STR4##

5. A kit comprising an antibody having binding specificity to a substituted fragment of PTHrP(1-34) selected from the group consisting of: ##STR5##

6. The kit of claim 4 or 5, wherein said antibody is labelled with a detectable marker.

7. The kit of claim 4 or 5, wherein said kit additionally comprises a reagent for detecting said antibody.

8. The kit of claim 4 or 5, wherein said kit additionally comprises:

(i) a support matrix upon which an assay to detect binding of said antibody to said PTHrP may be performed; and

(ii) a diluent for said antibody.
