Patent Claims:1. Isolated double- or single-stranded DNA comprising

(1) a DNA sequence encoding a naturally occurring parathyroid hormone receptor of a mammal, or

(2) the complement of said DNA sequence, said receptor having an amino acid sequence with at least 50% identity to the amino acid sequence encoded by SEQ ID NO: 3,

wherein a single-stranded form of said isolated DNA hybridizes under stringent conditions to a hybridization probe consisting of an 18-nucleotide portion of a sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2, SEQ ID NO: 3, SEQ ID NO: 4, and a sequence complementary to one of SEQ ID NO; 1, SEQ ID NO: 2, SEQ ID NO: 3, or SEQ ID NO: 4.

2. The isolated DNA of claim 1, wherein said DNA sequence encodes the amino acid sequence encoded by SEQ ID NO: 1.

3. The isolated DNA of claim 1, wherein said DNA sequence encodes the amino acid sequence encoded bY SEQ ID NO: 3.

4. The isolated DNA of claim 1, said isolated DNA being (8A6), deposited with the ATCC and designated ATCC Accession No. 68570.

5. The isolated DNA of claim 1, wherein said DNA sequence encodes the amino acid sequence encoded by SEQ ID No: 4.

6. The isolated DNA of claim 1, wherein said DNA sequence comprises a strand which hybridizes to the DNA sequence of, or to the complement thereof.

7. The isolated DNA of claim 1, wherein said DNA sequence comprises a strand which hybridizes to the DNA sequence of, or to the complement thereof.

8. The isolated DNA of claim 1, wherein said DNA sequence comprises a strand which hybridizes to the DNA sequence of, or to the complement thereof.

9. The isolated DNA of claim 1, wherein said receptor has an amino acid sequence with at least 75% identity to the amino acid sequence encoded by SEQ ID NO: 3.

10. A cell in culture containing the isolated DNA of claim 1.

11. An essentially homogenous population of cells in culture, each of which comprises the isolated DNA of claim 1.

12. The isolated DNA according to claim 1, wherein said DNA is single-stranded.

13. The isolated single-stranded DNA according to claim 12, wherein said DNA is delectably labeled.

14. A purified preparation of a vector, said vector comprising a DNA sequence encoding a naturally occurring mammalian parathyroid hormone receptor, wherein a single-stranded form of said DNA sequence hybridizes under stringent conditions to a hybridization probe consisting of an 18-nucleotide portion of a sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2, SEQ ID NO: 3, SEQ ID NO: 4, and a sequence complementary to one of SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO. 2, SEQ ID NO: 3, or SEQ ID NO: 4.

15. A method for producing a polypeptide, said method comprising:

providing a cell comprising isolated DNA encoding a naturally occurring mammalian parathyroid hormone receptor;

culturing said cell under conditions permitting expression of said polypeptide from said DNA; and

obtaining said polypeptide, provided that said DNA comprises a strand which hybridizes under stringent conditions to a hybridization probe consisting of an 18-nucleotide portion of a sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2, SEQ ID NO: 3, SEQ ID NO: 4, and a sequence complementary to one of SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID. NO: 2, SEO ID NO: 3, or SEO ID NO: 4.

16. Isolated double- or single-stranded DNA comprising

(1) a DNA sequence encoding a naturally occurring parathyroid hormone receptor of a vertebrate animal, or

(2) the complement of said DNA sequence, said receptor having an amino acid sequence with at least 50% identity to the amino acid sequence encoded by SEQ ID NO: 3,

wherein a single-stranded form of said isolated DNA hybridizes under stringent conditions to DNA having a sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2, SEQ ID NO: 3, SEQ ID NO: 4, and a sequence complementary to one of SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2. SEQ ID NO: 3, or SEQ ID NO: 4.

17. A cell in culture containing the isolated DNA of claim 16.

18. The cell of claim 17, wherein said cell is capable of expressing said receptor from said DNA.

19. An essentially homogeneous population of cells in culture, each of which comprises the isolated DNA of claim 16.

20. A purified preparation of a vector, said vector comprising a DNA sequence encoding a naturally occurring parathyroid hormone receptor of a vertebrate animal, wherein a single-stranded form of said DNA sequence hybridizes under stringent conditions to DNA having a sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2, SEQ ID NO: 3, SEQ ID NO: 4, and a sequence complementary to one of SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2, SEQ ID NO: 3, or SEQ ID NO: 4.

21. Isolated DNA encoding a peptide selected from the group consisting of RP1 (SEQ ID NO: 5), RP2 (SEQ ID NO: 6), RP3 (SEQ ID NO: 7), RP4 (SEQ ID NO: 8), RP5 (SEQ ID NO: 9),and RP6 (SEQ ID NO: 10).

22. A purified preparation of a vector, said vector comprising DNA according to claim 21.

23. A cell in culture containing DNA according to claim 21.

24. An essentially homogeneous population of cells in culture, each of which comprises DNA according to claim 21.

25. A method for producing a peptide selected from the group consisting of RP1 (SEQ ID NO: 5), RP2 (SEQ ID NO: 6), RP3 (SEQ ID NO: 7), RP4 (SEQ ID NO: 8), RP5 (SEQ ID NO: 9), and RP6 (SEQ ID NO: 10), said method comprising:

providing a cell comprising isolated DNA according to claim 21;

culturing said cell under conditions permitting expression of said peptide from said DNA; and

obtaining said peptide.
