A method for treating cancer in a human subject in need thereof comprising administering to said subject a therapeutically effective amount of synthetic 2-acetylnaphtho[2,3-b]furan-4,9-dione, and a therapeutically effective amount of at least one agent chosen from bevacizumab, bortezomib, capecitabine, cetuximab, fluorouracil, imatinib, irinotecan, leucovorin, oxaliplatin, panitumumab, pemetrexed, temozolomide, cisplatin, paclitaxel, erlotinib, sunitinib, lapatinib, sorafenib, carboplatin, doxorubicin, docetaxel, gemcitabine, and etoposide, wherein said cancer is pancreatic cancer or colorectal cancer, wherein said cancer expresses activated STAT3. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the cancer is pancreatic cancer. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the cancer is colorectal cancer.
