Each article could be assigned to more than one type of analysis (definitions in Table 1). (b) Article type—article types in which patent landscapes included in this systematic review appear. (c) Technology area—the technology areas focused on in the articles included in this systematic review. Each article was assigned to a single technology area. (d) Journal type—type of journal in which patent landscapes were published, scientific or 'other', which included journals that are primarily focused on legal issues, business or other topics.
