Title:Particle cassettes and processes therefor
Abstract: An article for use in manufacturing particle cassettes comprising one or more single pieces of membrane having a plurality of gas flow passages bonded thereto. The article allows convenient manufacture of particle cassettes. Two such articles may be employed to provide a finished particle cassette and a production line in which a plurality of gas flow passages are conveyed on a single membrane is disclosed.
Inventor(s): Bates; Nigel R. (Oxford, GB), Price; Philip T. (Oxford, GB)
Assignee: Powder Pharmaceuticals Incorporated (Hong Kong, HK)
Filing Date:Aug 22, 2013
Application Number:13/973,649
Claims:1. A device for accelerating a dose of particles contained in a gas flow passage of a particle cassette, the device comprising: a gas supply for supplying gas under pressure; a particle cassette exchange station downstream of the gas supply; a nozzle downstream of the particle cassette exchange station; whereby, in use, gas is supplied and causes a loaded particle cassette to open, whereupon the gas entrains the dose of particles contained in the particle cassette and the gas and particles are accelerated by the nozzle; the particle cassette exchange station comprising a holder for holding the gas flow passage, wherein the gas flow passage is closed by a single piece of membrane film, and wherein further gas flow passages are closed by the single piece of membrane film; and wherein the gas flow passages are arranged on the single piece of membrane film in a substantially linear formation and wherein the particle cassette exchange station is arranged to feed consecutive gas flow passages in the linear direction such that the gas flow passages line up with the gas supply conduit and the nozzle; and wherein the gas flow passages are arranged on the single piece of membrane film in a substantially circular formation and wherein the particle cassette exchange station is arranged to rotate the gas flow passages such that consecutive gas flow passages line up with the gas supply and the nozzle, and wherein the holder holds and releases consecutive particle cassettes so that they may be fed through the device manually.

2. A device for accelerating a dose of particles contained in a gas flow passage of a particle cassette, the device comprising: a gas supply for supplying gas under pressure; a particle cassette exchange station downstream of the gas supply; a nozzle downstream of the particle cassette exchange station; whereby, in use, gas is supplied and causes a loaded particle cassette to open, whereupon the gas entrains the dose of particles contained in the particle cassette and the gas and particles are accelerated by the nozzle; the particle cassette exchange station comprising a holder for holding the gas flow passage, wherein the gas flow passage is closed by a single piece of membrane film, and wherein further gas flow passages are closed by the single piece of membrane film, wherein the gas flow passages are arranged on the single piece of membrane film in a substantially linear formation and wherein the particle cassette exchange station is arranged to feed consecutive gas flow passages in the linear direction such that the gas flow passages line up with the gas supply conduit and the nozzle; and wherein the gas flow passages are arranged on the single piece of membrane film in a substantially circular formation and wherein the particle cassette exchange station is arranged to rotate the gas flow passages such that consecutive gas flow passages line up with the gas supply and the nozzle, and wherein the holder holds and releases consecutive particle cassettes so that they may be fed through the device manually.
