Claims: | 1. A method of treating a patient suffering from at least one neurodegenerative disease selected from Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, which comprises administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of a carbostyril compound of formula (1), or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof selected from hemihydrates, hydrates, and alcoholates, wherein said patient is a mammal: ##STR00003## wherein the carbon-carbon bond between 3- and 4-positions in the carbostyril skeleton is a single or a double bond. 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the neurodegenerative disease is Alzheimer's disease. 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the neurodegenerative disease is Parkinson's disease. 4. A method of treating a patient suffering from at least one neurodegenerative disease selected from Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, which comprises administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of a carbostyril compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof selected from hemihydrates, hydrates, and alcoholates, wherein said patient is a mammal, and wherein the carbostyril compound 7-{4-[4-(2,3-dichlorophenyl)-1-piperazinyl]butoxy}-3,4-dihydrocarbostyril- . 5. The method according to claim 4, wherein the neurodegenerative disease is Alzheimer's disease. 6. The method according to claim 4, wherein the neurodegenerative disease is Parkinson's disease. |
