Clinical Trials for Taspoglutide

Trial ID Title Status Sponsor Phase Summary
NCT00423501 ↗ A Study of a GLP-1 Analogue in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Treated With Metformin. Completed Hoffmann-La Roche Phase 2 This 6 arm study will evaluate the efficacy, safety, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of multiple doses and regimens of a GLP-1 analogue in patients with type 2 diabetes who are treated with a stable dose of metformin. Patients will be randomized to receive either subcutaneous placebo, or subcutaneous GLP-1 analogue, 5mg, 10mg or 20mg weekly, or 10mg or 20mg every 2 weeks. All patients will continue on their existing metformin treatment regimen throughout the study. The anticipated time on study treatment is <3 months, and the target sample size is 100-500 individuals.
NCT00460941 ↗ A Titration Study of a Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) Analogue in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Treated With Metformin. Completed Hoffmann-La Roche Phase 2 This 4 arm study will evaluate the tolerability, efficacy and pharmacodynamics of different doses of a GLP-1 analogue in patients with type 2 diabetes who are treated with a stable dose of metformin. Patients will be randomized to receive either subcutaneous placebo, or subcutaneous GLP-1 analogue (at a dose of 20mg, or a starting dose of 20mg escalating to either 30mg or 40mg), weekly. All patients will continue on their existing metformin treatment regimen throughout the study. The anticipated time on study treatment is <3 months, and the target sample size is 100-500 individuals.
NCT00717457 ↗ A Study of Taspoglutide Versus Exenatide for the Treatment of Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Inadequately Controlled With Metformin, Thiazolidinedione or a Combination of Both. Completed Hoffmann-La Roche Phase 3 This 3-arm study will assess the efficacy, safety and tolerability of taspoglutide compared with exenatide in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled with metformin, thiazolidinedione or a combination of both. Patients will be randomized to receive taspoglutide (10mg once weekly or 10mg once weekly for 4 weeks followed by 20mg once weekly) or exenatide (5 micrograms twice daily for 4 weeks followed by 10 micrograms twice daily) in a ratio of 1:1:1 in addition to continued prestudy metformin and thiazolidinedione either alone or in combination. The anticipated time on study treatment is 3+ years, and the target sample size is >500 individuals.
NCT00744367 ↗ A Study of Taspoglutide Versus Placebo for the Treatment of Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Inadequately Controlled With Metformin Plus Pioglitazone. Completed Hoffmann-La Roche Phase 3 This 3 arm study will assess the efficacy of taspoglutide on glycemic control (as assessed by HbA1c) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled with metformin plus pioglitazone, compared to placebo after 24 weeks of treatment. Patients will be randomized to one of 3 treatment arms: taspoglutide 10mg once weekly, taspoglutide 20 mg once weekly (after 4 weeks of taspoglutide 10 mg once weekly) or placebo, in addition to their continued stable metformin plus pioglitazone treatment. After the first 24 weeks patients on placebo will be switched to taspoglutide 10mg once weekly or taspoglutide 20mg once weekly (after 4 weeks of taspoglutide 10mg once weekly. The anticipated time on study treatment is 1-2 years, and the target sample size is 100-500 individuals.
NCT00744926 ↗ A Study of Taspoglutide Versus Placebo for the Treatment of Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Inadequately Controlled With Diet and Exercise. Completed Hoffmann-La Roche Phase 3 This 3 arm study will assess the efficacy, safety and tolerability of taspoglutide compared to placebo in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled with diet and exercise. Patients will be randomized to one of 3 treatment arms: taspoglutide 10mg sc once weekly, taspoglutide 20mg sc once weekly (after 4 weeks of taspoglutide 10mg sc once weekly) or placebo. After the first 24 weeks patients on placebo will be switched to taspoglutide 10mg once weekly or taspoglutide 20mg once weekly (after 4 weeks of taspoglutide 10mg once weekly). The anticipated time on study treatment is 1 year, and the target sample size is 100-500 individuals.
NCT00754988 ↗ A Study of Taspoglutide Versus Sitagliptin for the Treatment of Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Inadequately Controlled With Metformin. Completed Hoffmann-La Roche Phase 3 This 4 arm study will assess the efficacy, safety and tolerability of taspoglutide compared to sitagliptin and placebo in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled with metformin. Patients will be randomized to receive taspoglutide (10mg once weekly or 10mg once weekly for 4 weeks followed by 20mg once weekly), sitagliptin 100mg once daily or placebo, in a ratio of 2:2:2:1, in addition to their continued prestudy metformin treatment. After 24 weeks of treatment, patients on active treatment will continue on the same treatment and patients on placebo will be switched to taspoglutide 10mg once weekly or taspoglutide 20mg once weekly (after 4 weeks of taspoglutide 10mg once weekly). The anticipated time on study treatment is 2+ years, and the target sample size is 500+ individuals.
